Great video! I'm planning on doing this on on my Otterbox Defender for my iPhone4. May I make a suggestion?... I was actually thinking of putting it on the Clip of the defender. I think it might actually be easier to do just on the back of the clip that would normally go over your pants. Also with the clip it rotates 360 degrees so I think it would make the iphone even more useful for different photography. Let me know what you think. Gmaster0302@gmail.com Have a good day. I'm looking forward to your next video on Youtube. Peace.

I am sure you could try, but it will not be as strong as the mechanical fastening using rivets. That was the whole point. JB Weld or Plastic Weld doesn't always work with all plastics or make a strong enough hold as i would want to trust my iPhone too.

Could you use JB Weld or Plastic Weld to mount the nut to the plastic part of the Otterbox without using the rivets?

To get it to work with an iPhone 4 and a guitar you have to change the value of the R1 resistor to about 1K. Otherwise the iPhone wont detect that you've connected an external microphone.

this is great information. and it works great for me.

here a bit of what i found:

i tried to connect a small pre-amp to the ipod but no signal was recognized, using voice memos.
than i tried connecting ipod and laptop to my mic at the same time. and when ever i plugged the laptop in too the ipod was also able to receive a signal.

i am not sure what is going on. but your solution works super.

i also noticed that the mic ring on the ipod touch delivers 2.5 volt.

i am now able to connect a contact mic to the ipod touch without any opamp or preamp.
thanks.

Have a look at http://www.kvconnection.com as they make an inexpensive but hand made adapter. You should be able to feed this with something like a lavalier which has its own power source.
